《美國醫學會雜誌·腫瘤學》。 目前對於多次確診癌症的患者尚未常規進行遺傳性癌症風險基因檢測。 研究作者指出，該群體中遺傳性癌症基因頻率顯著升高，建議更廣泛地提供基因篩查服務，這將有助於指導治療決策、加強其他癌症的篩查，並提醒家族成員潛在的遺傳風險。
"隨著越來越多患者戰勝初發癌症，我們發現許多攜帶遺傳性基因突變的人面臨發展為其他癌症的高風險，"研究資深作者、杜克大學醫學院醫學系傑出教授兼主任Kathleen Cooney醫學博士表示，"掌握這一資訊將打開早期篩查、個性化治療的大門，並通過基因檢測保護家族成員。 "
