"過去認為這部分基因組處於關閉狀態，但事實證明這是誤解。" 隆德大學實驗醫學科學系教授Johan Jakobsson指出，"這些元件在人類幹細胞中保持活躍狀態，對早期腦發育發揮關鍵作用，阻斷其活動會產生實質性影響。 "
跳躍基因對腦發育的影響
當LINE-1轉座子活性被抑制時，研究團隊觀察到基因表達紊亂和腦類器官生長異常。 這種調控機制從進化角度解釋了人類大腦區別於其他靈長類的獨特性，同時揭示其與神經發育障礙的潛在關聯。
研究顯示，受LINE-1轉座子調控的基因中有相當比例與腦部疾病相關。 這為神經發育障礙和神經精神疾病的機制研究開闢了新路徑。 研究團隊已通過ASAP合作研究網路，與國際夥伴共同開展患者細胞和捐獻腦組織樣本的研究。
"這些元件並非進化殘留物，而是調控腦部活性基因的重要開關。" Johan Jakobsson教授強調後續研究計劃將聚焦兒童神經發育障礙和帕金森病等年齡相關疾病，旨在闡明基因組"暗物質"在疾病發生中的作用，最終推動治療方案優化。
