自殺預防需求迫切
在美國，自殺是各年齡段的重要死亡原因：10-14歲及25-34歲人群的第二大死因，15-24歲第三大死因，35-44歲第四大死因。 過去二十年全國自殺率上升超過33%，凸顯了有效預防策略的迫切需求。 每年約100萬美國成年人實施非致命性自殺行為，近50萬人因此住院，相關經濟損失達5000億美元。 然而，自殺仍是主要死因中唯一缺乏針對高危人群獲批處方藥的領域。
研究共同第一作者、俄亥俄州立大學精神病與行為健康學系教授克雷格·布萊恩指出，針對性自殺治療雖能有效減少自殺意念，但出院后獲得專業治療師支持的機會十分有限。 OTX-202通過向患者直接提供定向治療，有望填補這一空白，在關鍵的出院期支持康復並降低復發風險。
多中心試驗驗證療效
在六家美國醫院開展的多中心雙盲隨機對照試驗中，研究人員對339名精神病住院患者進行了評估。 參與者被隨機分配至OTX-202應用組或主動對照應用組，並接受標準治療。
對照應用提供安全計劃和心理教育，而OTX-202則提供針對性自殺治療模組。 結果顯示，根據臨床總體印象量表自殺嚴重度變化（CGI-SSC）評估，OTX-202組患者的改善程度顯著優於對照組。
