母親簡·坦迪在內，已有超過30,000人報名參與這項研究。
歐文斯表示，她報名參加該研究是因為眼看著患有失智症的家人失去記憶和個性"令人心碎"。
她說，當失智症患者失去個性時，他們失去了"最重要"的部分。
她表示：「這對他們個人的影響，以及對他們周圍所有愛他們的人的影響，僅僅是看著那個人變成一個他們再也認不出的模樣。 這令人心碎，真的很難承受。 "
"這就是為什麼我認為這類研究對幫助未來人們避免面對這些問題真的、非常重要。"
"希望它能説明家庭及早獲得診斷，或制定不同的治療計劃和護理方案來幫助他們。"
這項研究由埃克塞特大學醫學院的安妮·科比特教授領導。
科比特此前已開展過一項研究，通過指尖血檢測試與失智症相關的血液生物標誌物。
她現在相信可以將這些生物標誌物與大腦測試表現聯繫起來，從而提供一種預測失智風險的潛在方法。
'降低風險'
她表示，這些在線測試提供的結果極其敏感。

歐文斯的母親簡·坦迪也報名參加了該研究。 她表示，在失智症開始影響她認識的人之前，她"從未過多考慮過失智症"。
"我一直在從事需要耗費大量腦力的工作，認為這不會影響到我，"她說。
"但後來維姬的一位家人失智症病情迅速惡化，我的一位朋友也患上了失智症，我在他們眼中看到的恐懼促使我真正參與進來。"
